When the eye of the cosmic storm passes over Earth, the Impals—visible spirits who can’t cross over—disappear. But, an ethereal void opens, releasing the lost souls of murderers, rapists, and genocidal maniacs. As darkness and chaos overtake the Earth, people everywhere face horrific fates.

No one is safe who falls into the shadows.

General Ott Garrison is immune to harm, which he feels is a sign from God—he is meant to lead. His son, Cecil, fears the opposite—that the general is a kindred spirit with the evil infesting the world.

On the run, Cecil and members of the Myriad Resistance become trapped in a secluded cabin in the Virginia wilderness. The only thing keeping what lies in the shadows of the thick woods at bay is a gasoline-powered generator, which is running dangerously low on fuel.

Soon, the device feared to destroy the soul—The Tesla Gate—may be the world’s only option for salvation.

In 2009, John began to couple his knowledge of paranormal phenomena with his lifelong love of literary fiction. Among his completed manuscripts are The Great Keep, Death Theory, and The Lemonade Girl. John's debut novel, The Tesla Gate, is the first installment of a sci-fi/paranormal trilogy published in July 2014 by Open Road Integrated Media. January 5, 2016, Open Road released The Myriad Resistance (The Tesla Gate: Book 2). The Eye of Madness (The Tesla Gate: Book 3) is slated for release September 27, 2016. Though fictional, the trilogy is based on scientific, paranormal theory.

John resides and writes on a mountaintop in central Arkansas with his wife and two sons.

The Trouble with Mistletoe by Jill Shalvis

If she has her way . . .

Willa Davis is wrangling puppies when Keane Winters stalks into her pet shop with frustration in his chocolate-brown eyes and a pink bedazzled cat carrier in his hand. He needs a kitty sitter, stat. But the last thing Willa needs is to rescue a guy who doesn’t even remember her . . .

He’ll get nothing but coal in his stocking.

Saddled with his great-aunt’s Feline from Hell, Keane is desperate to leave her in someone else’s capable hands. But in spite of the fact that he’s sure he’s never seen the drop-dead-gorgeous pet shop owner before, she seems to be mad at him . . .

Unless he tempers “naughty” with a special kind of nice . . .

Willa can’t deny that Keane’s changed since high school: he’s less arrogant, for one thing—but can she trust him not to break her heart again? It’s time to throw a coin in the fountain, make a Christmas wish—and let the mistletoe do its work . . .

“You want to come upstairs, Willa?”
What she wanted was to put her hands back on his chest now that she knew it was as hard as it looked. Instead she gripped either side of her seat with white knuckles. “Of course not.”
“I think you do. I think you want something else too.”
“What I want,” she said as coolly as she could, “is dinner as promised.”
“Liar,” he chided softly.
“Well that’s just rude, calling your date a liar.”
“So it is a date.” His tone was very male and very smug. It should’ve pissed her off but instead it did something hot and erotic to her insides.
Clearly knowing it, he smiled at her and then dragged his teeth over his lower lip as he contemplated her.
Gah. She wanted to do that. And she wanted to do more too. She wanted him shockingly badly and suddenly she couldn’t remember why she shouldn’t. She tried to access her thought processes on the subject but her brain hiccupped and froze. Which surely was the only reason she let go of the death grip on her seat, slid her fingers into his hair, and . . . brushed her mouth over his.

He didn’t move, not a single muscle, but when she pulled back, his eyes had gone dark as night, piercing her with their intensity.
“Don’t read that the wrong way,” she whispered.
“Is there a wrong way to take it when a beautiful woman kisses you?”

I really enjoyed this book! I have previously read Jill Shalvis' work so I knew going in that I would like it. Shalvis didn't disappoint. I always enjoy a good book that is full of love and laughs and light on angst. Sometimes a girl just needs a feel good book. The Trouble with Mistletoe gave me just that.  Going into this book, I wasn't aware this is the second book in the series. While yes, it is the second book, each book can be read as a standalone because each book is about a different set of characters. I LOVE series like that. I get to get inside a different couples head, all while keeping up with the characters I already love. I plan on going back and reading book one just because I loved everyone in this book so much.

The Trouble with Mistletoe is the story of Willa and Keane. I fell in love with these guys. Both loveable and relate-able and you can't help but feel for them because of their childhood.

Willa Davis had it rough growing up. She was raised in foster care and it wasn't pleasant. She over came that though and is the proud owner of South Bark Mutt Shop. Aside from being a sweetheart, she puts on doggy weddings. What isn't there to love about her?!

Keane Winters is the hottest flipper around. He buys used houses and flips them for a living. This man was sweet and sexy and I just wanted to eat him up. Keane's aunt is sick so she bestowed him the job of caring for her cat, Petunia. Or as Keane likes to call her, PITA. Petunia was having none of Keane, or his belongings. Keane was having none of Petunia's antics. Desperate, he takes her to South Bark, for help boarding.

Keane and Willa have history. Thing is, Keane doesn't remember Willa OR the history. He can't figure out why in the world she is being so standoffish towards him. He knows one thing though; she's absolutely beautiful. She also knows one thing, he's a history she doesn't want to repeat.

I enjoyed that The Trouble with Mistletoe gave me all the feels. It had the perfect amount of love, laughs, and even a little bit of a serious tone. Shalvis did a great job of flowing it all together. I read this book cover to cover and loved every minute of it. It also put me in the Christmas Spirit. It's never too soon to decorate for Christmas, right? I highly recommend this book. I even recommend the series because I know that when I read book one, I'll love that one too.

New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis lives in a small town in the Sierras full of quirky characters. Any resemblance to the quirky characters in her books is, um, mostly coincidental. Look for Jill’s bestselling, award-winning books wherever romances are sold and visit her website, www.jillshalvis.com, for a complete book list and daily blog detailing her city-girl-living-in-the-mountains adventures.
